[Following their brief exchange of texts, Nanami decides to head straight for the market. He's already showered, groomed, and dressed for the day, so there's nothing else he needs to do to prepare and he would rather arrive a bit early and get a look at the selection of produce available. His previous visits were more about scoping out anything suspicious than actually doing any shopping. ...That can be said for most of his activity around the resort, really. This is one of his only purely recreational outings so far.
He makes it there in less than ten minutes which gives him enough time to see what looks fresh, start thinking about potential recipes, and pick up a shopping basket.
When Lissa arrives, he's waiting with the handles of the basket looped over one arm.]
( as lissa gets ready for their meeting, donning a matching skirt and jacket set in sage green, she can't help but be amused. her peers always thought her to be too gauche, stooping so low to hang out with the class meant to protect her. but she always remained a princess, with people doting on her every minute of the day. to see her excited to learn how to cook - well, if only they could see her now.
no, she doesn't need this type of food usually. but learning how to make it couldn't hurt.
there's a skip in her step when she sees him, lifting her hand to wave. )
I feel quite positively about it. It makes one feel cozy. ( and it's definitely approachable to a princess with no experience whatsoever. ) What kind of soup?
[She looks nicely put together, but it's her genuine show of interest that he appreciates most. Usually he only cooks by himself, for himself, having no real connections with anyone outside of work. Certainly none he can share his hobby with. It's nice to have an opportunity to do that while getting to know one another.]
Tonjiru, pork and root vegetables. It's fairly simple to prepare.
[Lots of peeling, slicing, and chopping upfront, but then everything goes in a single pot. It's adaptable too. Aside from a few key ingredients, they can add whatever they like. He waits for her to fall into step with him before heading for the row of vegetable stalls.]
I'll grab the necessary things, so pick out anything else that looks good to you.
( she's heard of this before. soup. homey. she can picture him coming home after a day of work and making this easily. lissa nods, trying not to look too out of her element when picking out ingredients. though she's never had to make her own food, she at least knows how some things taste together and what flavors might work.
giving him a small, hesitant glance, she first selects a few carrots that look good and then points to a batch of mushrooms ( lissa isn't sure which kind ) she thinks might go well in the broth. )
[He puts them into the basket along with the staples he's found—daikon, and burdock root, and scallions—and then both yellow potatoes and sweet potatoes for a bit of starchy variety. That should do it for the vegetables. Now they just need meat and stock.]
( she feels strangely nervous picking out food with him, as if attempting to pass as human. it isn't as if lissa hasn't made her information public anyway; she'd spent the first month at the resort discussing the ins and outs of vampirism to at least twenty people who had swiped on her profile.
her eyes land on a cut of pork, all pretty and mostly white with fat. if she were less aristocratic and more ... feral, she might consider digging into the slab of meat without the rest of the ingredients.
she politely licks her lips instead. )
I think this is perfect. ( seeing that she's not the only one eyeing the meat, she jumps into action before another shopper can take it. this is serious business. )
market redux

They'll add a nice, earthy flavor.
